hummus and pita crisps

This is the best way to do pita chips and hummus - making then both from scratch is so good and super easy!

As long as you have some sort of blender you can make homemade hummus with just a few ingredients. And these chips are to die for, made with whole wheat pita and baked in the oven.

Serve this simple hummus with assorted chopped veggies for an hors d‘oeuvres, or add to a salad or wrap for additional plant based protein and fiber. Try the recipe below!

hummus ingredients (makes 6 servings)

1 can chickpeas

1/4 cup tahini

1 tbsp olive oil

juice from one lemon

1 tbsp minced garlic

1 tsp sea salt

1/2 tsp ground cumin

2 tbsp cold water

pita crisp ingredients (makes 4 servings)

2 whole wheat 9” tortillas

1 tbsp olive oil (I find that olive oil spray works best to coat the pita)

1 tsp zaatar seasoning

1 sprinkle cumin

1 sprinkle sea salt

recipe

1. preheat oven to 300F

2. lay tortillas flat on a sheet pan, spray both sides with olive oil and sprinkle with zaatar and sea salt

3. place into the oven and bake for 25 mins or so until crispy and browned 4. to a blender, all all of the hummus ingredients and pulse until creamy (you might need to add more water to make it the right consistency)

5. plate hummus (optional: add a drizzle of olive oil, extra chickpeas, sesame seeds, more cumin, etc)

6. break tortilla crisps into pieces, dip and enjoy!
